How Do People Find My Blog

So once I take the time to write a blog, how does the common person find and read it.  I know that friends will email their blog address.  Whenever they update their blog, they send a quick email so I can go and read what’s new.  So if I wanted my students to access my blog, I should just tell them the address.  But how would someone who doesn’t know my blog address find me?

  1. So, let’s pretend I have given my blog address to a student and he/she reads the blog entry and writes a comment. They write a comment and submit it. I guess if I wanted to respond to their comment, I would have to let them know that they should check my blog again.

    Is there a better way?

  2. A few points here:

    - How do people find the blog in the first place? It can be found via search engines, provided you’ve left enough clues, e.g. your name in the URL (hamaguchiw), your name in the title of the blog (“It’s Bloggin’ Time), and if you leave your name in the posts – your username is hammerw, which people probably wouldn’t search for. Most readers come because you alert them to your blog, or if you post on others’ blogs, they’ll click back through the link to find your blog. If someone who gets a lot of traffic on their blog links to your blog, that will get you a lot of visitors.

    - how do they keep up-to-date with your blog once they’ve found it? By using RSS.

    - how will they follow a thread once they’ve commented? By checking the button that says “Notify me of follow-up comments via email” next to the comment box.

  3. Weyne, I left a comment, but I don’t think it went through!
